A Legacy of Presence and Purpose

The King’s Gate was shaped by prayer, perseverance, and a deep pursuit of God’s presence. Our roots trace back to Kingdom World Outreach Center, where prayer and faithfulness were laid as a strong foundation by Pastors Chris and Sheila Mitchell. In 2015, Pastors Chris and Aletia Mitchell were sent to plant Gateway City Church, over time, Kingdom World Outreach Center and Gateway City Church became The King’s Gate. The name changed. The vision didn’t. We exist as a continuation of that same Kingdom call: To see lives transformed, spiritual ground reclaimed, and people formed into the likeness of Christ. We believe true strength flows from intimate union with the Father and is expressed through lives marked by faithfulness, endurance, and love.

Today, we are a growing Kingdom family—building with gratitude for the past and faith for the generations to come.

  • After accepting the call of the Lord to pioneer a church here in Virginia Beach, we began to seek the Lord for a name that would reflect his heart for our church.  At once, we were reminded of the history of the region we are called to serve and the Lord’s mandate to us in establishing this work.  Our name flows out of these two points, encompassing a four-hundred-year-old covenant, and a specific call upon our local assembly.

In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 26, 1607, three small ships carrying the first permanent settlers of what would become the United States approached the shores of Cape Henry (Modern Day Virginia Beach) at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay.  After landing, the Rev. Robert Hunt led those first settlers in a prayer of dedication, declaring "from these shores the gospel will go to the New World and to the entire world".

It is our conviction that in His sovereignty, God choose the shores of Virginia Beach and the Hampton Roads region to be the birthing place of a new nation.  A nation called by Him and set apart for His purpose.

The declaration made that spring morning still remains a central element of the destiny of our City, to be a gateway to our nation and the nations of the world!  We believe that God is raising up a people that will fulfill this prophetic assignment, and that The King’s Gate is a part of that fulfilment.  America’s first region will once again be a place known for her covenant, and the River of God's presence will flow from this place touching the ends of the earth.

Further, it is our mission to raise up a people who themselves will become living gates for the King of Glory.  They will be the very access points through which the Lord of Host enters, transforming everything and everyone connected to them.

This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him, Who seek Your face. Selah Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, The LORD mighty in battle. Lift up your heads, O you gates! Lift up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, He is the King of glory. Selah

    (Psalms 24:6-10 NKJV)

“HE HAS SHOWN YOU WHAT IS GOOD. AND WHAT DOES THE LORD REQUIRE OF YOU? TO ACT JUSTLY AND TO LOVE MERCY AND TO WALK HUMBLY WITH YOUR GOD.” - MICAH 6:8

"We do hereby dedicate this Land, and ourselves, to reach the People within these shores with the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and to raise up Godly generations after us, and with these generations take the Kingdom of God to all the earth. May this Covenant of Dedication remain to all generations, as long as this earth remains, and may this Land, along with England, be Evangelist to the World. May all who see this Cross, remember what we have done here, and may those who come here to inhabit join us in this Covenant and in this most noble work that the Holy Scriptures may be fulfilled."

— Reverend Robert Hunt, April 29, 1607

Everything we do flows from the love of God—a love that forms us, strengthens us, and sends us.

Our life together centers on three convictions:

  • We are for authentic union with God. For us, adoration and worship of the King is central.

Eternal life is a relationship, not a destination.

Through worship, prayer, and the ministry of the Word, we create space for people to know Him, hear His voice, and be transformed by His presence.

  • We are for forming mature sons and daughters anchored in the love of the Father.

Strength is not charisma or hype. It is Christlike character.

Through discipleship, spiritual formation, and shared life, we equip people to remain rooted in truth and resilient through every season.

  • We are for bold, overcoming faith in everyday life.

Those who know God are made strong in His love and sent with purpose.

We serve, lead, and love courageously.

Trusting God to bring awakening and transformation as His Kingdom advances.

This is not information-based Christianity.

It is incarnational faith.

Rooted in the love of the Father and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are formed into the image of the Son.

From intimacy comes strength.

From strength comes mission.

As a strengthened people, we are sent into the world to see lives restored, communities renewed, and Jesus revealed through love, power, and faithful witness.

The King’s Gate is more than a gathering.

We are a family formed by His presence, strengthened for His purpose, and sent to advance His Kingdom.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

At The King’s Gate, our beliefs are rooted in the historic, orthodox faith of the Church, as confessed through the Nicene Creed, and lived out through a Kingdom-centered, incarnational way of life. These truths are not merely doctrines we affirm, but realities we are called to embody—forming us into the likeness of Christ through the love of the Father and the power of the Holy Spirit.

  • We believe in one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—a loving communion of three Persons, perfect in unity, holiness, and love.

We believe in God the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, whose love is the foundation of all creation and the source of our salvation. From His love, all things find their purpose, and through His love, we are welcomed as sons and daughters.

We believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, fully God and fully human. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, lived a sinless life, revealed the Kingdom of God, and made the Father known. Through His death on the cross, He defeated sin and death. Through His resurrection, new life is made available to all who believe. Through His ascension, He now reigns as Lord of all.

We believe salvation is the gift of God’s grace, received through faith in Jesus Christ. Through His saving work, we are forgiven, reconciled to the Father, and invited into a life of ongoing transformation—being conformed to the image of the Son by the power of the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. The Spirit dwells within believers, empowering holy living, forming Christlike character, distributing spiritual gifts, and bearing witness to Jesus in the world.

We believe in one holy, universal, and apostolic Church—the Body of Christ on earth—called to worship God, make disciples, and bear faithful witness to His Kingdom. The Church is a spiritual family where generations are united, leaders are formed, and love for one another reveals Christ to the world.

We believe the Scriptures are inspired by the Holy Spirit and authoritative for faith and life, revealing God’s nature, His redemptive purposes, and His will for humanity.

We believe in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come, when Christ will return in glory to fully establish His Kingdom, renew all things, and dwell with His people forever.

In all things, we affirm that we love because He first loved us. The love of the Father makes us strong, the life of the Son shows us the way, and the power of the Spirit enables us to overcome—living as more than conquerors through Christ who loves us.
